The Study Objectives

The study has three primary objectives:

  • TO APPRAISE THE TOTAL TRANSPORT NEEDS IN THE STUDY CORRIDOR TO THE YEAR 2021

    considering:-

    • Actual and preceived travel problems in the study area through extensive survey and consultation.

    • The contribution of various travel modes to the alternative solutions to the problems identified.

    • The effects and incidence of an Integrated Transport Approach.

    • Movements outside the study corridor that would influence the movements within.

  • TO IDENTIFY VIABLE, SUSTAINABLE AND COSTED OPTIONS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED

  • TO RECOMMEND:-

    • A long Term Strategy for travel improvements in the A453 corridor.

    • A range of measures to implement the strategy, demonstrating cost effectiveness, benefits and disbenefits.

    • A plan to address the most urgent problems including opportunities to induce modal transfer.

Aspects influencing the study context include:

  • Travel characteristics.

  • Land use and environmental Issues.

  • Transport stategies for the cities of Nottingham and Derby.

  • M1 north/south corridor multi-modal study.

  • Economic Development and Regeneration.

  • Integrated Strategy and Sustainability.

The 4 appraisal strands driving the Multi-modal study are:

  • a Multi-modal approach - all modes of travel.

  • the meeting of local objectives in a regional context.

  • the mitigation of local problems in a regional context.

  • to support the analysis of local issues.
